Project Leaders:Victor Gaultney, Type DesignerVictor Gaultney Victor Gaultney has been a typeface designer with SIL International for twelve years. He has worked extensively in the area of non-Roman font design and development, but is also known for his recent Roman typeface - Gentium - which includes an extensive extended character set to cover thousands of languages around the world and has won multiple international design awards. Victor has been a consultant to major computer companies, and received his education at St. Olaf College, Minnesota, USA and the University of Reading, UK. Contributions:Guidelines for Development of Writing System Support Report: Intellectual Property Issues in Developing Complex Scripts and Language Resources Sharon Correll, Programmer* Media ID 'Sharon_pic' not found * Sharon Correll is the lead developer for Graphite, a system developed at SIL International to provide extensible rendering support for the complex writing systems of the world. She has also worked on SIL's LinguaLinks and FieldWorks projects to support the task of multilingual field research. She holds an M.S. degree in computer science from the University of Delaware, with an emphasis in artificial intelligence. In her spare time, Sharon performs as a mezzo-soprano with The Dallas Opera chorus and is pursuing opportunties as an oratorio soloist. Contributions:Complex Script Data Exchange Format Paper WorldPad Graphite Edit Control Frank Yung-Fong TangFrank Yung-Fong Tang Frank Tang was born in Taiwan, ROC. He has been an Internationalization Software Developer since 1989 and Mozilla Internationalization Module Owner from 1997 to 2002. In his free time, Frank enjoys reading the Bible. Contribution:SILA: Mozilla-based Graphite enhanced browser Lorna Priest, Publishing Systems Developer* Media ID 'Lorna_Pic' not found * Lorna Priest grew up in Bolivia, South America. She has been with SIL International for 18 years. Lorna has worked in England, Kenya and the USA doing typesetting of Roman and Ethiopic books, computer support and teaching computer classes. The past four years Lorna has worked in the area of non-Roman publishing research and development. She has also been strategic in the process of helping SIL transition to using Unicode. Lorna also enjoys sitting with her cat Panda, reading and digging in her garden. Contributions:Sample Script Implementations for Latin Font “Roles & Players” portion of “Guidelines for Development of Writing System Support” Martin Hosken, Scripts Development/Systems EngineerMartin Hosken Martin Hosken holds an BEng. in Electrical Engineering from Sheffield University in England, and he has been working with minority scripts of South East Asia and computers for ten years. Martin is currently the head of the Mainland Southeast Asia Computing Department and the SIL Secondary representative to the Unicode technical committee. Contributions:Burmese Font for Sample Script Implementations “Roles & Players” portion of “Guidelines for Development of Writing System Support” Project Support:Peter Constable, Script ResearcherPeter Constable Peter Constable is a linguist and researcher in information technology internationalization. He is primarily responsible for software implementation of minority-language writing systems based on non-Latin scripts. Peter holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in linguistics. He worked as a field linguist in Mexico and also in Thailand. Since 1996, he has worked with a team focusing on providing computer solutions for non-Roman scripts. Peter serves as SIL's primary representative to Unicode, and is actively involved in promoting the use and further development of Unicode. Martin Peter Martin has worked as a type designer with SIL International's Non-Roman Script Initiative since joining the organization in 1994. His other activities on the team include database and web application development. In the past he has worked for IBM, Ernst & Young and Ruf Datensysteme (Switzerland) in systems management, IT decision support/management consulting and software development. Peter grew up in Scotland, and received his degree in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh. Contributions:Font: Doulos SIL Sample: type design UNESCO Deliverables: production and packaging Alan Ward, ProgrammerAlan Ward Alan has been with SIL International for over 14 years. Since 1998, he has been working with non-Roman scripts by contributing to the development of rendering technology (Graphite) and by helping create a system for producing smart fonts. Previous to that, he helped develop a system to create custom Roman fonts with the special characters needed for minority languages. Alan grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and earned an engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology before joining SIL.
